Especially if you have thin hair this is for you!
As someone who has really fine, thin hair that I have bleached and dyed multiple times, I was on the hunt for good haircare products. My hair used to be very thin and brittle on the ends that it was not cute. It was also very flat and boring and I wanted a change. When my sister went to cosmetology school and started doing my hair she gave me lot’s of advice and products that would be good for my hair. So yes these have been recommended by a professional hair stylist so you know what I’m telling you is accurate. Now my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been even though I still bleach it every couple months.
Now as far as the fullness of my hair goes I can’t really change the fact that it’s thin, but I can cut it and use products and style it in ways that can help give it more volume. The best haircut for my thin hair was to get thick, short layers. This really adds volume to my hair whether it’s in a ponytail or just down. I also got curtain bangs because we know that’s a trend right now (thank you Sabrina Carpenter.) It is probably my favorite hair cut I have had.
First we’re going to start off with the beginning of the routine which is the hair washing. Now one thing that has worked for me is washing my hair every other day or every two days. I never go longer unless I have too just because I like having it clean. Now I like to switch up my shampoo and conditioner but the one that I have grown to love is called Luseta.
I use the purple bottle shampoo which is Biotin and Collagen and the pink bottle conditioner which is Keratin. These two mixed together makes for super clean soft hair. Make sure when you shampoo that you shampoo twice. the first time is just to get all the dirt and stuff out of it, the second time is to actually deep clean your hair and scalp. Then do conditioner just once. I like these one’s too because you can get them at TJ Maxx and their only like $15-$20 a bottle. So it’s right in the middle of being too cheap or too expensive but it lasts easily 3-4 months. A little goes a long way.
Moving onto hair masks. I do these once a week because for thin hair that’s all it needs. Hair masks are important to use because they restore the nutrients into your hair and also helps with the texture of it. I switch these up a lot but these are some of my favorites. The first one is the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask. I got this from my sister (the hairstylist) for Christmas and it was a really good mask. I will say I don’t think it smells the best but it works very well. It makes your hair super smooth and thick feeling. The next one I talked about in my last blog is the Coco Magic Hair Mask. It has coconut oil in it which is really good for your hair. I stand by this one it’s super thick and smells amazing! This makes your hair super smooth it’s actually insane. It’s more budget friendly than the other one if your looking for a good mask that doesn’t break the bank.
So when you get out of the shower put it up in a towel for about 5 min. After that brush it out I recommend using a Wet brush. I stand by these brushes, us girlies with thin hair know that our hair is very fragile, especially when it’s wet. So a Wet brush is nice because it doesn’t damage your hair and it doesn’t hurt to brush out. Girl it could be so knotted and it will not hurt at all. I really could’ve used one when I was a kid.
Now when you get out of the shower your hair routine is not done. There is still some products you have to put in your hair when it’s damp to really have the best hair. Oils are a big part of having healthy hair. I know what your thinking “if I have oily hair why am I gonna put oil in it?” now hear me out on this. A little bit goes a long way. You also don’t apply it to your scalp which is where most of the oils in your hair live but, your hair needs a little bit of those natural oils to stay healthy.
I know some girlies put the oil in their hair before they shower, I have not tested this method but if it works for you then do it because everyone’s hair is a little different. The oil I recommend is another Moroccanoil product. (no this is not sponsored I wish though.) It’s the Moroccanoil Treatment. I apply a little bit to the ends of my hair and brush it out. This helps with frizz and also makes it a little shiny. A healthy glow I like to call it. Another good oil is the Olaplex Number 7 Bonding Oil. This oil repairs, strengthens and helps reduce breakage. It also makes the hair super soft and shiny.
I also like to put a scalp oil in my hair. I put it down my hairline and on the scalp massager, and I rub it into my head. A healthy scalp is the key to healthy hair because that is where the start of your hair is. The one I use is Hydrating Scalp Serum with Hyaluronic Acid. Just a little bit works great and helps with build up on the scalp. It also helps the hair grow because the scalp massager massages the head which stimulates hair growth.
The next product to apply on damp hair is the Olaplex Number 6 Bond Smoother. This is just another product to help with smoothing the hair and making it shiny. I usually do the oil to help repair the hair and the bond smoother to help it’s appearance.
Now, of course we all love our hot tools such as curling irons and blow dryers. It is ok to use those as long as your taking the right precautions with it. This includes using a lower heat setting and using heat protectant. A couple of my favorites are the Kenra Thermal Styling Spray. Recommended by my sister of course. I also like the Chi Thermal Protectant Spray. It comes in a red bottle and a pink bottle.
Of course I got the pink one but it’s the same product in both. A little bit goes a long way you don’t want to use too much other wise it makes your hair oily. They also make your hair a little straight and shiny before you actually use heat on it. You can use this while the hair is damp before you blow dry.
Now you know all of my hair secrets. I wish someone would’ve told me sooner before I walked around with brittle hair. I used to bleach my whole head too…it was definitely not a look. Thank goodness I figured it out and had my sister to help me, and now I’m here to help you because hot girls don’t gatekeep. So that is all my product recommendations that I use for my fine, thin hair and how I keep it healthy. Be sure to sign up for my email list to get notified every time I post a new blog.
