Do you walk down the school hallway self conscious because you have a pimple? Or do you cake on your makeup to try and hide the little red dots all over your face? Believe me girl I’ve been there. I struggled through middle school and highschool with acne. I tried all the drug store products and nothing worked. It got to a point where I had to just embrace it. Then I discovered Proactive! That was the only skincare system that worked for my skin growing up. Everytime I tried to get away from it I would break out. So I kept going back to it…until I turned 21.
Just before I turned 21 I started to break out really bad on my jawline and my forehead and I didn’t know why. I was still using Proactive so I guess my skin just got immune to it. That was when I decided to go to a Dermatologist to get professional help. So to avoid you girlies from going to a Dermatologist I’m gonna show you 7 skincare and makeup products that are completely acne safe. I went through the pain and self consciousness so you don’t have to.
Just keep in mind I’m not a professional. These are products that I have tested and tried that actually work. I’ll include links to everything for easy shopping! Just click on the picture:)
1. La Roche Posay Face Wash and Lotion
This face wash literally changed my life. I went to the dermatologist and this is the face wash she put me on and let me tell you, it’s my favorite one ever. It gives a nice foaming sensation so it cleans really deep. Afterwards it makes your face shiny and smooth so that it actually feels clean. Follow that up with the face lotion too and your skin will be glowing instantly.
A little bonus tip is after you wear makeup, wash your face twice then do the lotion. Believe me girl this is the product. I know I sound like a commercial and this is not at all sponsored but like I’ve said in the past….hot girls don’t gate keep.
2.Cerave Sunscreen
This is another dermatologist recommended product. Shout out to her she’s my girl hooking me up with all the good stuff. Now I know we’ve heard it a million times to incorporate sunscreen into your skincare routine. I didn’t believe it until someone told me that it helps with aging too. When you go out in the sun it makes you wrinkly as you get older and gives you sun spots. Girl, we don’t want that. This sunscreen makes you glow. It‘s also price friendly and convenient because you can get it anywhere. We love a good bargain and a reason to go to target. Use it sparingly though a little bit goes a long way. Don’t make the mistake I did once or twice and cake it on. Unless you’re into that look.
3. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum
First off, I know everyone is saying to use retinol. If you’re already struggling with breakouts DO NOT use retinol. I have tried to get on the retinol train (nothing against it) but it always made me breakout more. I have even done the whole 30 day thing for it to work and I was still breaking out. So it’s safe to say it’s not for acne prone skin. However, I love a good serum. Hyaluronic acid is great. It makes your skin glow and look very hydrated. It also helps with wrinkles and lines. Proactive used it in their products and like I said before I used that for years. The Ordinary is my favorite serum brand. I have used others until I found this one and even though it’s a popular brand right now, I can relate to the hype. Plus it looks really cute on your vanity.
4. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
Now moving onto the makeup. To be honest it doesn’t really matter the type of blush you use or face powder. It’s the foundation that’s important. It’s the one that actually sits and absorbs into your skin. It’s the base layer to the rest of your makeup.
This is a tinted moisturizer with spf in it so it’s like a 2 in 1. I wear this as foundation in the summer time if I wanna look a little more put together without doing a full face of makeup. It is a very light product so it doesn’t feel heavy on your face and it gives a little bit of a tint. So you can look a little tanner, who doesn’t love that right? It’s also oil free so it’s not damaging to your skin.
Keep in mind to still use your regular face lotion before putting this on. Think of this as a foundation, but you don’t need a primer if you’re putting it on by itself.
5. Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation
For all the makeup girls this is your foundation. It is a full coverage foundation. So a little bit goes a long way. I used to use drug store foundations which I’m not gonna lie, some of them worked really well. I tried higher end one’s too and this is the one that doesn’t affect my skin. Granted I haven’t tried all the brands, but hey you got to stick to what works. Make sure you use a fresh beauty blender when applying, which means either a cleaned one or a new one so you don’t get your old product mixed with the new product.
6. Neutrogena Makeup Wipes
Since we’re talking about makeup of course you need something to take it off with. These makeup wipes have NEVER given me acne. I don’t know a lot about the chemicals in them, all I know is their magic. They get EVERYTHING off without causing damage to the skin. You can usually get these anywhere, especially Target, your favorite store;) Another perk is that a lot comes in a package so you shouldn’t have to buy any too often.
I prefer makeup wipes over micellar water because I feel like micellar water leaves some oils behind on the skin which can cause you to break out. Maybe in the future I’ll give it another shot.
7. Sheet Masks
Finally we made it to the last product. I know what you’re thinking, “what does this have to do with anything?” I don’t want you girlies to feel left out on the selfcare, face mask day trend. Sheet masks are the way to go. It doesn’t matter which type as long as it’s a sheet mask. Usually these masks are hydrating and sometimes have aloe, honey or other products in them. Most of the time they just make your skin bright and moisturized, making it look really healthy. I have used all kind’s of brands of sheet masks and have never had a problem. So no more missing out on face mask sleepovers with the girls.
I hope this helps you on your skincare journey. Like I said I’m not a professional these are just products I stand by that actually worked for me. I’m here to help you be more confident in your skin…literally. If you find any others that have worked for you, comment below so we can share beauty secrets. Love you beautiful humans xoxo.
