We all know waking up to work your 9-5 is hard, especially on a Monday. Some of us just aren’t made to be morning people and that’s ok. Little do people know is the first hour or two of your day is the most crucial. Believe it or not there is a right way and there is a wrong way to wake up. It has taken me a long time to figure out these right and wrong ways and I am speaking from experience. So I am going to give you the best morning routine that will help your overall health and mood while also setting you up for a better day.
1. No Screens
You have heard it before and I’ll say it again do not go on your phone when you first wake up! I’m not gonna lie I used to be guilty of this but now I have discovered that it is very unhealthy for the brain and your eyes. The body is like a computer, when you turn it on you have to give it time to load before you use it. The body is the same you have to give it time before you stimulate it in the morning… especially with a blue light screen. However, the sun releases a natural blue light which is a healthy blue light in the morning because it can increase your alertness and mood.
2. Mindfulness
It sounds cheesy I know, I used to think the same thing. However, now that I do mindfulness in the morning I noticed that I have a better day. I like to lay in bed for a minute, just a minute so I don’t fall back asleep. I wake up and let my brain process that it woke up. This can take anywhere between 3- 5 minutes. Then I like to grab my 5-Minute Journal and fill out the page. It makes you write down goals for the day and what your thankful for, it puts you in the right headspace. Then if your a religious person I read a chapter or two in my bible. After that I like to do a quick morning meditation. I sleep with a noise maker so I leave it on and lay on my back and deep breathe for a few minutes to get in tune with my body. You can do this while sitting or whatever comfortable position helps you get in tune with your body. This process should take around 10-15 minutes.
3. Make Bed
Isn’t it funny how something as simple as making your bed can make a huge difference in your day? Not only does it prevent you from crawling back in it and falling asleep again. It is also the first task of the day that you completed. We do little tasks throughout the day that make us feel accomplished and we don’t even know it. Making your bed helps you feel a sense of pride and motivates you to want to do more tasks to get that feeling of pride back. it’s like a drug…but a good drug.
4. Gym
Now of course no one can force you to go to the gym. I do find myself having a better day when I do go to the gym in the morning. It has so many health benefits not just physical but mental too. It is also scientifically proven that when you get your endorphins going in the morning your mood is more positive for the whole day. The gym makes you feel more confident in yourself and once your done you feel accomplished and ready to face the day. It is not selfish to take an hour for yourself.
5. Eat Breakfast
A lot of people don’t know this, but your supposed to eat 30 minutes after you wake up to jump start your metabolism. This can be yogurt which is what I gravitate towards, fruit, bacon, an egg. Literally anything as long as you eat something. I won’t lie you probably won’t be hungry but you still need to eat. Like everyone says, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
6. Self Care
Everyone has their own form of selfcare. I know majority though have some sort of shower and skincare routine. Not only is skincare trendy and fun, but it also does have benefits too. Number one it provides confidence in yourself when you go out in public. Number two, it helps with healthy skin, and aging. Number three, when we shower we get all the bacteria and dirt off our bodies which is good because we don’t need any of that entering our body and causing health problems. Even if you work from home or if you are a stay at home mom you still need to take care of yourself through selfcare. It will help you feel ready for the day. It is proven that when you do basic things for yourself like showering in the morning you have a better day.
7. Listen to Uplifting Music
Think about what you put in your body food and drink wise. Well, why can’t we do the same with your thoughts and emotions. What we listen too and watch is just as important to what we eat. If you turn on depressing music your whole mood is going to change to a sad and down mood. That is because the brain reacts off of what we feed it. If I’m listening to sad music it’s gonna think we’re sad and having a bad day. If we listen to upbeat fun music, the brain is gonna feed off of the serotonin you get from listening to happy music therefore you will have a better day.
8. Drink 2 Cups of Water
We all know water is really important but it is most important in the morning after you wake up. In a simplified way it wakes up your body. In the longer way, it helps reduce aches and pains, it can aide in weight loss, improve the immune system and increase alertness. I always tell people that it can jumpstart your metabolism just like food does, which can increase digestion. I would recommend drinking water within the first 30 min after waking up. It’s just like splashing cold water on your face, that wakes up your mind and skin, while drinking it wakes up the inside of your body.
How you wake up in the morning and the first thoughts you have can really affect how your day is gonna go. Now of course if you do all these things their will be some days you have a bad day. That’s just called life, but how we deal with those bad days is determined by our morning routine. Even the simplest things like morning meditation and making your bed can already make a huge difference. Life is all about mindset. Talk to you next time beautiful humans!
Wow!! I love every word of this! Great job! Great advice!!
